Dairy-free hot chocolate really isn't hard to make, but most hot chocolates (in coffee shops or mixes) use milk.
When I was little, I couldn't have hot chocolate out anywhere because I was allergic to dairy. Luckily, it's really easy to make your own!
Plus, I love the taste - so rich and chocolately... you can make it as sweet - or not - as you like, and you can play with different flavors.
Sometimes I like to add cinnamon and nutmeg, or maybe a bit of almond extract, or even some orange zest.
I also like making a hot carob drink, which is a totally different flavor that hot chocolate, but yummy in its own way. You don't need as much sugar when you use carob, because it's narually sweet.
I included directions for using a non-dairy milk, and also directions for the way I make it when I don't have any on hand and just use a starch powder. I used a pure, solid chocolate in the video, but I would normally make this with cocoa powder.
